MCPL Camps
In-person robot workshops at MCPL libraries

Robotic Workshops

Through our partnership with Montgomery County Public Libraries, we conducted multi-session free robotics courses at Germantown and Gaithersburg libraries, with sessions in spring, summer, and fall of 2024 and 2025. Using the mBot2, we showed students how to build, code, use RGB and ultrasonic sensors, and navigate mazes. There was an overwhelming response from the local community. Kids learned the basics of robotics and coding in a fun and hands-on way.

Due to the high level of positive responses, our team decided to continue these workshops. We continued them this March of 2026, and used a similar curriculum to before, with the added benefits of two extra lessons explaining loops and sensors in greater detail, and more engaging mini-projects.

We used mBot2 robots for the camps, which are demonstrated in the image to the side. They contain a metal and plastic base, wheels, and multiple sensors, which are perfect for learning or teaching applications.

After seeing the overwhelmingly positive response to the library robot camps, we took the initiative to start a free CAD camp at Gaithersburg Library at March 2026 and teach students the basics of computer aided design. There was an huge sense of excitement and eagerness for these camps even before they started. Students used Onshape and got to 3D print their designs, which were expressed in the form of keychains that were personal to them. This opened up a whole new venue of learning and exploring for them.
